About Sam Oliver

Sam Oliver has been independently studying Iboga and Ibogaine for over a decade, driven by a deep commitment to understanding the plant in its full complexity — ecological, cultural, and therapeutic. His work weaves together the scientific, the social, and the spiritual dimensions of Iboga, with a focus on how to preserve its integrity and ensure its sustainable use for future generations.

Over the past ten years, Sam has travelled, researched, and filmed within Iboga-related communities — from the forests of Central and West Africa where the plant grows, to clinical and grassroots treatment settings across the globe. His ongoing documentary work aims to capture Iboga’s story from every angle: the urgent ecological questions around cultivation and sustainability, the indigenous traditions that safeguard its wisdom, the medical applications in addiction treatment, and the challenges and opportunities of integration in contemporary societies.

Sam’s goal is not only to document Iboga’s development but also to help shape a responsible, safe, and sustainable future for its use. His perspective is informed by years of independent research, collaboration with healers, practitioners, and scientists, and a belief in the interconnectedness of ecology, culture, and healing. Through the Ibotruth Project, he seeks to create a living record that honours the plant, advocates for ethical practices, and contributes to a broader vision of health, sustainability, and human transformation.
